Is it permissible to sell small mosques or the land on which they are built and buy a larger plot of land to build a bigger mosque, in order to meet the needs of Muslims and their gatherings?

It is permissible to sell a mosque if its interests are defunct, or to build another, better mosque in its place. The determination of the predominant interest must be made by the people of knowledge and intellect in the region.
