Who should financially support the young sisters after the father's death, given the presence of a 16-year-old brother, and who is the guardian over their persons and wealth? Is the brother accountable for his sisters, and is his obedience obligatory?

The jurists differed on who is obligated to provide for needy relatives. The preponderant opinion is that of the Hanbalis, which states that sustenance is incumbent upon every heir for their legator if the conditions are met. If the brother is a guardian or a sponsor, he has the authority to discipline the young, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones." And based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "Indeed, all of you are shepherds, and all of you are responsible for your flock. A man is a shepherd over his household and is responsible for them." Therefore, a Muslim must teach their family matters of their religion and forbid them from prohibited acts. If the brother is responsible for his siblings, they should obey him in matters that do not involve disobedience (to Allah) or harm.
