What is the wisdom behind stipulating that a divorced woman must marry another husband and then be divorced by him in order for her to return to her first husband?

If a man divorces his wife with three pronouncements of divorce, she becomes unlawful for him until she marries another man, a marriage of desire, not of tahlil (making her lawful for the first husband). The wisdom behind this is to deter husbands from trivializing their wives' rights. It makes the first divorce a slip, the second an experience, and the third a separation. Allah has ordained, regarding the third divorce, the removal of the husband's right to take her back immediately after the divorce, and the removal of the woman's right to consent to return to him except after her marriage to another man. This is a punishment for husbands who trivialize women's rights.
