How does a person seek forgiveness with the intention of repentance and bringing provision, and is it permissible to intend to ask for multiple things through seeking forgiveness?

Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) is a request for Allah's forgiveness to purify the servant from sins. It has been commanded in the Quran, often coupled with tawbah (repentance), and sustenance has been promised for it in verses such as: "And [commanding], 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will [then] let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every possessor of grace his due grace.'" (Hud: 3), and "And said, 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [copious] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and make for you gardens and make for you rivers.'" (Nuh: 10-12). The servant should couple tawbah with istighfar. It is prescribed to ask for forgiveness and sustenance together, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught: "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and provide for me." For he said: "If any of you asks, let him ask a lot, for he is only asking his Lord."
