What is the ruling on praying in any direction when unable to ascertain the Qibla while traveling, coupled with the fear of missing the prayer time, and is it permissible to repeat it later?

Facing the Qibla is a condition for the validity of prayer. This condition is waived in certain situations, such as when a Muslim is unable to determine its direction. In such a case, he should pray towards the direction he believes to be the Qibla, and his prayer will be valid, with no need for repetition. This is supported by the Hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions prayed in cloudy weather not facing the Qibla, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not order them to repeat it, saying: "Your prayer has sufficed." However, if a Muslim is in Muslim lands, he should ask or rely on mosques for guidance. A traveler should learn methods to determine the Qibla, such as using a compass or phone applications.
