Why does a worshiper stand before God with his feet apart, while standing perfectly straight before an authority out of respect, obedience, and fear? And is this not due to the Creator, glory be to Him?

It is sunnah for the worshipper to space their feet one hand span apart, and it is not disliked to maintain this. It is also recommended to alternate between the feet if standing for a long time, as this is more conducive to khushu' (devotional humility).
