Is a university student who relies on his father's allowance for an expiatory oath (kaffarat al-yamin) required to feed ten poor people or to fast for three days?

If the money given by the father exceeds the student's needs for covering his study expenses by an amount sufficient to feed ten needy persons, then the student is not permitted to expiate his oath by fasting. Instead, he is obligated to feed or clothe [the needy]. However, if the money is not sufficient for that, then fasting is permissible due to inability. The father is not obligated to pay the expiation for an oath on behalf of his son because it is not part of theatory maintenance. Nor is the son required to save money for the expiation; the consideration is the ability at the time the expiation becomes due.
