The child of fornication is legally attributed to his mother and her family. Kinship, the state of being unmarriageable (due to close blood ties), and inheritance are established through her. As for his father from fornication, he is not attributed to him, and there is no kinship between them except through the mother. If the pronoun "they" refers to both parents, then maintaining kinship ties is obligatory from the mother's side and not obligatory from the father's side.
