Intention (niyyah) is a condition for the validity of prayer and ablution. It is formed by bringing to mind the intention for the specific prayer or ablution one is about to perform. The place for the intention is only at the beginning of the act of worship, and it is not necessary to bring it to mind for every obligatory act or sunnah within it. The intention of performing (adaa') is not a condition for the validity of prayer according to the most preponderant opinion. A person praying alone does not need the intention of being alone. It is obligatory to bring to mind the intention for Friday prayer, so whoever intends it as Dhuhr prayer will not have it suffice. It is advised to turn away from whisperings (waswas) and not pay any attention to them.
