How can the remaining five days of Ramadan fasting from 2011 be made up, given the entry of the subsequent Ramadan (2012), and is expiation obligatory for the questioner residing in Canada?

If you delayed making up the missed days of Ramadan due to an excuse until the next Ramadan began, then only making them up is required of you, and expiation (kaffarah) is not obligatory. However, if you delayed making them up without an excuse, despite being able to do so, until the next Ramadan began, then the fidyah (feeding a poor person for each day) is required in addition to making them up. This is unless you were ignorant of the prohibition of delaying, in which case no fidyah is required of you at that time.
