Does prolonging the prayer due to intrusive thoughts (waswasah), and the attempt to hasten that leads to disequilibrium in its pillars, invalidate the prayer and necessitate its repetition?

Waswasah (obsessive whisperings) is evil and a source of distress. Its cure lies in nipping it in the bud and avoiding indulgence in it. Regarding prayer, we advise you to do what is incumbent upon a Muslim: be present in heart, show humility, contemplate the greatness of your Lord, and reflect on what you recite. Slow recitation does no harm as long as it fosters greater humility and aids contemplation, and does not escalate to waswasah by repeating verses without cause or lagging behind the Imam. Pray normally and recite in an ordinary manner, without tension or excessive zeal. Rapidity in recitation and performing prayer is neither praiseworthy nor desirable. However, slowness resulting from waswasah and the repetition of letters and verses is blameworthy. The obligation is moderation and balance. Your feeling of imbalance does not invalidate the prayer as long as you have performed its pillars and obligations correctly. Repeating the prayer is an indulgence on your part in these whisperings, so you must strive to reject them, disregard them, and turn away from them.
