What is the ruling on one who prays while being a smoker?

Whoever smokes and prays has mixed a righteous deed with an evil one. However, his smoking does not invalidate his prayer if he performs it with all its conditions met and free from impediments. He should be advised to avoid smoking, and if he is weak [in resolve], he should avoid it before the obligatory prayers so that the angels and worshippers are not harmed by its smell, while holding the view that smoking is absolutely forbidden due to the harms that result from it.
