Did Gabriel (peace be upon him) or any other angel see Allah (the Exalted)?

There is no evidence in the Qur'an or Sunnah (definition) that Jibreel or any other angel saw Allah the Almighty. This is an unseen matter that cannot be affirmed except with evidence. It was not affirmed in the Hadith (definition) of the Mi'raj that Jibreel or the Prophet saw Allah. Scholars have differed on this issue; some affirmed it, while others denied it. Sheikh Izz al-Din ibn Abd al-Salam held the view that angels do not see Allah, whereas Abu al-Hasan (definition) al-Ash'ari, followed by Al-Bayhaqi, Ibn al-Qayyim, and others, stated that they do see Him. When Ibn Baz was asked about angels seeing their Lord, he said, "Allah knows best." Sheikh Abd al-Rahman al-Barrak believes that the verse, "They believe in Him," does not necessitate the negation of vision, and that vision does not contradict belief. He provided examples with the prophets. In conclusion, this unseen matter cannot be affirmed or denied except with evidence, and the correct stance is to withhold judgment on the issue.
