Do the angels obey God through free will, or do they lack the capacity for disobedience, and what is the correct view on this according to the Qur'an and Sunnah?

Belief in angels is a pillar of faith. Angels are creatures inherently devoted to worship; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them and do what they are ordered. Allah has removed from them desires that lead to sin. The statement that angels have no choice or that they are like puppets is false. Rather, they are honored servants who possess will and choice. Accountability is contingent upon intellect, knowledge, capability, and choice. They are capable of doing what they are commanded and do not choose anything that involves disobedience to their Lord. The Hadith (definition) of Abdullah ibn Salam, which indicates that angels are created like the heavens, the earth, the winds, and the clouds, does not mean that they are without will. Instead, it means that they execute Allah’s command without disobedience, and this does not contradict their possession of will and choice.
