Does jinn possession affect Muslims only, and not disbelievers and Christians?
The entry of jinn into the human body is affirmed by the consensus of the Ahl al- wa al-Jama'ah (Sunni Muslims) and has been indicated by authentic hadiths. It has been denied only by some Mu'tazilah and those who followed them. Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that the causes of jinn possession of humans are three: love, harm from the human, or mischief. Possession can occur to both Muslims and disbelievers alike. Jinn possession is not the same as organic or psychological epilepsy, and some people may interpret unseen possession in a materialistic way due to their disbelief in jinn. It is important for a Muslim to protect himself and his family with remembrance (dhikr) and lawful incantations ( shari'ah) such as Al-Mu'awwidhat (the surahs of seeking refuge) and Al-Fatihah, and to resort to organic and psychological medicine when needed, while staying away from charlatans and exaggerations.
