Al-Qurtubi mentions in his book "Al-Tadhkirah" that the discrepancy in hadiths regarding how the two angels question people is due to the varying conditions of individuals; some are questioned about a part of their beliefs, while others are questioned about all of them. It is also possible that some narrators abbreviated the question, while others presented it in full. This variation also applies to the types of torment and bliss, as it follows the differences in people's deeds and ranks. Al-Qurtubi dedicated chapters in "Al-Tadhkirah" to the varying effects of the spaciousness of the grave on believers according to their deeds, and the differing states of disobedient individuals in grave torment according to their sins.
