What is the difference between angels, jinn, and devils, and are jinn present with us on Earth? How were they divided into good and disbelieving, how can one avoid the disbelieving among them, and what is the influence of good jinn on humans?

There are many differences between angels and jinn, among which are that angels were created from light, and jinn from fire; that all angels are believers and infallible, whereas among the jinn there are Muslims and disbelievers; and that angels are devoid of desires, unlike jinn. As for the difference between jinn and devils (shayatin), "Shaytan" is the evil jinn that afflicts children or becomes malicious and powerful, and when its power increases, it is called an "ifrit." Jinn and devils exist on Earth, as indicated by the authentic verses and hadiths. Among the jinn, there are believers and there are disbelievers. Protection from the jinn devils was mentioned in a previous fatwa (definition), and Allah may facilitate believing jinn to assist a Muslim from among the children of Adam.
