When Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was troubled by something, he would pray. It is legislated for a Muslim to perform the Istikhara prayer and to supplicate with reported supplications, such as: "O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mika'eel, and Israfeel, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You judge between Your servants concerning that wherein they differ. Guide me to the truth concerning that wherein they differed, by Your permission. Verily, You guide whom You will to a straight path."
However, opening the (Qur'an) with the intention of seeking guidance (Istikhara) or taking omens is not permissible.
