Are there stations for work in Islam, and are there examples among the Companions?

The stations of Islam are three: Islam, Iman (faith), and Ihsan (excellence), which were mentioned in the Hadith (definition) of Gabriel. The station of Islam: It is bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat (definition), fasting Ramadan (definition), and performing Hajj to the House. The station of Iman: It is belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree, both its good and its evil. The station of Ihsan: It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He surely sees you.

Ibn al-Qayyim likened contentment with the religious legal decree to these stations. He made arbitration fall under the station of Islam, the absence of discomfort fall under the station of Iman, and submission fall under the station of Ihsan, citing the verse: "But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves, and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have decided and submit with [complete] submission."
