Is a difficult financial situation and a lack of job opportunities for a family of ten (father, mother, 4 sons, 4 daughters), all of whom hold higher degrees, considered wrath, punishment, or a test from Allah?

The cause of affliction cannot be determined, as it is part of the unseen that only Allah knows. However, one should self-reflect, for it might be due to a sin or a shortcoming in fulfilling the rights of Allah or His servants. Piety, coupled with sincere reliance on Allah (tawakkul (definition)) and taking the necessary means, is a path to sustenance. A pious person may be afflicted so that Allah may elevate his ranks and distinguish the truthful and the patient. Affliction varies according to one's faith. Allah has given glad tidings to those who are patient in affliction, and patience in calamities is a sign of belief in divine decree and destiny. The remedy lies in seeking refuge with Allah, persistent supplication and prayer, seeking forgiveness (istighfar), maintaining obligatory acts of worship, and frequently reciting "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" (There is no might or power except with Allah). Among the beneficial supplications are: the supplication for worry and sorrow: "O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant...", and the supplication of Yunus: "La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu min al-dhalimin" (There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I was of the wrongdoers). Furthermore, one should seek permissible sources of livelihood, even if they are below one's academic qualifications, for that is better than needing and begging.
