The answer

The answer to this question has two aspects: The first relates to the questioner as a Muslim, who must submit that Allah Almighty does nothing except for a wisdom, which we may or may not know. Belief in this does not depend on knowing the wisdom, for Allah Almighty says: (It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should have [any] option in their decision) [Al-Ahzab:36]. One should not pay attention to such whispers and doubts, as Allah Almighty says: (And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed, the devils inspire their allies to argue with you. And if you obey them, you are indeed polytheists) [Al-An'am:121].

The second aspect relates to the Buddhist. Dialogue with people like him involves discussing the fundamental issue, which is belief in Allah and His Messengers. If the Buddhist does not understand the wisdom behind the creation of man, does this mean that the universe came into existence by chance? Even the slightest contemplation realizes that this existence must have a wise, knowing, and capable Creator. If he acknowledges this, then there is no basis for his objection to Allah's wisdom in creating man and testing him. Among the wisdoms in this are the manifestation of the effects of Allah's names and attributes, the benefit and wisdom of worship, and that assigning man to it is an honor for him.
