The answer

Abandoning prayer is one of the greatest sins and transgressions; it is the distinction between faith and disbelief. The obligation of prayer encompasses the remaining pillars of Islam. One who has abandoned prayer must sincerely repent to Allah before their time expires. For one who repents sincerely, it is hoped that Allah will record for them the reward for all the good deeds they performed before repentance. As prophetic hadiths indicate, whoever embraces Islam and perfects their Islam will have every good deed they performed recorded for them, and every sin will be erased.
