The question

Can one become an alim (scholar) through self-learning via encyclopedias and modern means, and by listening to scholars' lessons remotely, without the companionship of a scholar? And what are the names of Salafi scholars known for their knowledge and piety in Arab countries, especially in Sana'a?

The answer

The student of knowledge can benefit from visual, auditory, and textual resources for acquiring knowledge, but these do not replace direct learning from scholars and students of knowledge, and engaging in discussions with them. Sitting with people of knowledge and their students remains one of the most important means of seeking knowledge and solidifying information.
