Are what is happening to me—seeing and hearing things that no one else sees or hears, knowing about events before they occur, and water turning into rosewater when I recite the Quran over it—miraculous favors from God (karamat) or acts of Satan?

What occurs to the soul by way of inspiration (ilham) and unveiling (kashf) may be psychic, satanic, or angelic. The occurrence of miracles (kharq al-adat) does not indicate a person's righteousness, for they may occur at the hands of evildoers. Rectitude is measured by steadfastness in obedience to Allah and adherence to the Qur'an and Sunnah (definition). Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah emphasized that miracles do not indicate their performer's sainthood (wilayah) with Allah; rather, they may occur to many disbelievers, polytheists, innovators, and devils. Allah's saints are known only by their attributes and actions as indicated by the Qur'an and Sunnah.
