The question

Is it correct to infer from the verse "Do you feel secure that He who is in the heaven?" and the hadith "Show mercy to those on earth, and He who is in the heaven will show mercy to you," and the hadith of the slave girl, that Allah is in the heaven, taking into consideration Al-Qurtubi's interpretations of "He who is in the heaven," and what is mentioned in Malik's Al-Muwatta concerning the hadith of the slave girl, and how does this reconcile with "And the whole earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens rolled up in His Right Hand," and "His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth"?

The answer

Allah, glory be to Him, is above all His creation, as indicated by the Qur’an, the , and the consensus of the Salaf. The meaning of His saying, may He be exalted: (Who is in the heaven), is that He is upon it and above it, and above the Throne, which is the ceiling of all creation. Thus, He, glory be to Him, is high above His creation and is not encompassed by any part of them. The Kursi (Footstool) is greater than the seven heavens, and the ‘Arsh (Throne) is greater than the Kursi. There is no contradiction between His being in the heaven and His rolling up the heavens and the earth on the Day of Resurrection.
