Is what was narrated about Imam Abu Hanifa – may Allah be pleased with him – that he saw Allah in a dream and asked Him about the salvation of creation on the Day of Resurrection, and that Allah answered him that salvation would be by reciting a specific supplication in the morning and evening, true?

The ذكر (remembrance/invocation) mentioned as a means of salvation from Hellfire on the Day of Judgment has no basis [in Islamic law]. Religion has been perfected, and the Messenger [peace be upon him] clarified everything that brings one closer to Paradise and distances one from Hellfire. Furthermore, this story about Abu Hanifa cannot be authentically attributed to him. Al-Ghaiti, the Sufi, narrated it without a chain of transmission, and he is known for his fondness for strange tales. Moreover, rulings of Islamic law or the virtues of deeds cannot be established through visions and dreams. Finally, the description of Allah as "Eternal of Eternity" has not been mentioned in the sacred texts, and the names and attributes of Allah are tawqifiyyah (restricted to what has been revealed in the Quran and Sunnah (definition)).
