What is the ruling on saying "Oh, Messenger of Allah," or "Oh, Saints of Allah," or "Oh, my masters" during calamities or sorrowful events, and are these utterances considered a form of seeking aid?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The word "Ya" (O) indicates supplication, and supplicating to a created being, seeking their aid, or asking from them is forbidden in Islamic law if they are incapable of fulfilling what is asked of them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the awliya' (saints) after him are unable to perceive or rescue a child who has fallen in Holland. Muslims must gain understanding in matters of creed and polytheistic affairs to guard against them. Students of knowledge should educate communities about this with wisdom and good admonition.
