The question

What is the ruling on watching animated cartoons and Japanese stories that contradict Islamic creed, such as "Naruto" and "Dragon Ball," for entertainment, while believing in their falsehood? And does this fall under the category of being pleased with disbelief (kufr)? What is the meaning of being pleased with disbelief, with references?

The answer

Watching these things with the belief that they are invalid removes disbelief, not sin, because believing in their invalidity means a rejection by the heart, and this indicates the persistence of the root of faith. This is supported by the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith." And his saying: "Beyond that, there is not a mustard seed's weight of faith." So, rejection is obligatory when one is able, and dislike is the weakest of faith. As for being content with evil and following it, that is destruction. Contentment with disbelief means acceptance by the heart and not rejecting it.
