It is forbidden to own or raise dogs except out of necessity, such as guarding, which is one of the permissible necessities. It is permissible to raise a young puppy for the purpose of benefiting from it in ways that allow the ownership of dogs, such as guarding, as training a dog can only be achieved through owning it.
