What is the ruling on drawing animate beings with covered features, such as drawing the eye with glasses and covering the mouth and nose, or drawing animate beings without legs or with half a body, while the facial features are visible?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The fundamental principle, according to the majority of scholars, is the prohibition of drawing complete images of animate beings. However, some have permitted drawing incomplete images (from which a part essential for life, such as the head, has been removed), or drawing images with indistinct features. Accordingly, there is no harm in drawing a face with the eyes, nose, and mouth covered, or drawing a face without the rest of the body. Nevertheless, it is safer to abstain entirely from drawing animate beings.
