Depicting living beings (dhawat al-arwah) is prohibited, whether through sculpture or drawing. However, photography with modern tools is a matter of scholarly disagreement, except for what is necessitated by dire need (darurah (definition)) or a recognized genuine need (hajah (definition) mu'tabarah). The prohibition becomes more severe if the picture is of a woman revealing her charms, as this leads to the spread of corruption. Provocative, lewd, or vice-promoting signatures are forbidden, and website administrators must not allow them. It is impermissible to excuse oneself by claiming personal freedom when committing a forbidden act; rather, one must denounce it and offer advice. It is also impermissible to look at a man's 'awrah or at women's pictures on websites, and the sin falls upon the beholder, the publisher, and anyone who assists in publishing.
