What is the ruling on still photography and the ruling on keeping printed and digital photos, and does this fall under the prohibited forms of photography?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Digital images are not included in the prohibited forms of photography. As for photographic images printed on paper, there is a difference of opinion among scholars, and the preponderant view is that they are permissible because they are not the act of the photographer, but rather the capturing of a shadow by a device. Regarding their possession, there is also a difference of opinion, and the more cautious approach is not to keep them unless out of necessity.
