How do we reconcile the obligation to accept a Muslim's invitation and maintain kinship ties with the presence of forbidden things like singing and incense at these gatherings?

The Sharia (definition) commanded maintaining kinship ties and accepting invitations, and great reward has been assigned to these acts. However, the obligation or recommendation to accept an invitation is waived if the invitation involves a forbidden act that cannot be changed, such as the presence of unlawful music or hung pictures of animate beings, as this would constitute an endorsement of the forbidden act. Similarly, it is not permissible for a woman to perfume herself with incense or fragrance and go out in a way that men can smell her scent, as this is considered a cause of temptation, and severe warnings have been reported concerning it. The solution is to be frank with relatives, informing them of the desire to maintain communication provided that it is free from falling into the forbidden.
