What is the ruling on listening to anasheed that include sound effects such as the sounds of birds or laughter, or electronic sound effects, knowing that these anasheed are free of musical instruments?

Listening to anasheeds (Islamic vocal music) that are mixed with music and musical instruments is unlawful (haram (definition)), and similarly, if they contain sounds resembling music. Rhythms and sound effects are unlawful if they produce sounds similar to those of musical instruments. However, if their sounds are distinct from those of musical instruments, they remain permissible in principle. This includes rhythms that are repetitions and fragmented melodies produced by the voices of the chanters themselves, without the use of musical instruments; there is no harm in this.
