Does a renewable vow for supererogatory acts of worship become binding, after it was learned that the first pledge was an oath and did not convert the acts of worship into obligatory ones?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If a person intended a vow and vocalized it, then their vow is binding, and they are obligated to fulfill it. Expiation is not sufficient for them unless they are unable to fulfill it; in that case, an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat ) becomes obligatory. However, if it was merely an intention or a doubt about vocalizing it, then nothing is binding upon them.
