The question

How can one repent from stealing money from one's mother, relatives, and shops, given the desire to conceal oneself and not inform those from whom the money was stolen, and is it permissible to give the stolen money as charity, and is it sufficient to return the stolen money to the mother as a gift with the intention of repaying the theft?

The answer

The questioner is congratulated on his repentance and commitment. It is clarified that suicide is a grave crime that a Muslim is not permitted to commit, and that the door of repentance remains open as long as the soul has not reached the throat. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of returning the rights of people or seeking their absolution. These rights can be returned without explicit declaration, such as returning a right to one's mother as a gift, or by giving the impression to shop owners that something was taken and its price not paid. The questioner is advised to abandon obsessive thoughts and to utilize time and energy in beneficial pursuits, such as seeking knowledge and inviting others to Allah, and to associate with those who are steadfast in their religion.
