The question

What is the way to overcome the repeated commission of sins after repentance, and does one who repents, then backslides, then repents again, fall within the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade on the Day when there is no shade but His, by virtue of being "a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah"?

The answer

Among the greatest causes of steadfastness, guidance, and avoidance of sins are: engaging in the recitation of the Qur'an, pondering its meanings, and acting upon it; supplication (du'a); keeping good company; attending gatherings of knowledge and admonition; inviting others to rectitude and warning them against vices; and frequently contemplating and reflecting on the texts of revelation that instill fear of Allah's punishment. Furthermore, pushing oneself towards noble deeds and increasing in good, such as learning Qur'anic exegesis (), the authenticated recitations (qira'at mutawatirah), and books of , also helps in this regard. Sincere repentance erases what came before it, and a youth who grows up in obedience is one who has not experienced a satanic inclination.
