What is the ruling on decorating the interior walls of the mosque with Quranic verses, supplications, and religious patterns, with the intention of reminding worshippers, introducing non-Muslims to Islam, and connecting children to the Islamic architectural style?

Writing Qur'anic verses, Hadiths, and supplications on the walls of mosques and homes is makruh (definition) (disliked) and an innovation (bid'ah), because it distracts worshipers and turns mosques into museums. Furthermore, it is not befitting for the Qur'an, which was revealed for contemplation and action, not for adornment. As for decorating and embellishing mosques, the preponderant opinion is that it is forbidden, especially if done with endowment funds or if it distracts worshipers.
