What is the ruling on young men and men wearing a chain with Ayatul-Kursi for protection, or a chain/bracelet/bangle/armband with a picture, drawing, words, or souvenir for optimism, and what is the ruling on women and girls wearing a chain or bracelet with a souvenir for optimism?
The opinions of scholars vary regarding wearing items that carry Quranic verses, such as Ayat al-Kursī, for protection. However, some verified scholars have deemed it impermissible, to block the means (sadd al-dharīʿah) to polytheism (). It is permissible to wear something that bears the name of one's spouse, as long as it does not involve imitating non-Muslims. However, wearing something with the name of a beloved with the intention of an illicit relationship is not permissible. Furthermore, the "good luck charm" (ḥaẓẓāẓah) is considered among the forbidden amulets. It is also forbidden for a man to wear chains, bracelets, and similar items that are considered women's adornments, as this involves imitating women.
