The answer

Whoever prays over a funeral, even if they do not depart with it from its home, receives a qiraat, as was reported in Muslim from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever prays over a funeral but does not accompany it, will have a qiraat. If he accompanies it, he will have two qiraats." Thawban's also indicates that "Whoever prays over a funeral will have a qiraat. If he witnesses its burial, he will have two qiraats. A qiraat is like the mountain of Uhud." Accordingly, the qiraat is obtained by whoever merely prays, even if they do not accompany the funeral. The qiraat for one who only prays, without accompanying and praying, differs.
