Is it permissible to pay for funeral expenses and food costs for relatives from money left by the deceased for that purpose?

What your father left behind is an inheritance. Nothing should be spent from it before its division, except for his preparation (for burial), his burial, the payment of his debts, and his legitimate bequests. Making feasts for mourners is against the Sunnah (definition), and the matter becomes even graver if some of the heirs are not pleased with it, or if there are orphans or minors among them. Preparing food and gathering at the house of the deceased's family are reprehensible innovations.
