Condolence is to console the afflicted and encourage them to be patient with Allah’s decree and destiny. It is commendable in Islam due to its embodiment of cooperation in righteousness and piety, and its alleviation of grief. Condolence can be offered with any words that console and comfort the afflicted, such as saying: “Indeed, to Allah belongs what He took, and to Him belongs what He gave, and everything with Him has an appointed term, so be patient and seek reward.” There is no specific time or place for offering condolences; it is permissible from the moment of death and continues indefinitely.
