Can it be said that one who has been given glad tidings of Paradise kills pure souls, and does the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) apply to him: "If two Muslims meet with their swords, then the killer and the killed are in the Hellfire," and the severe warning in the Qur’an against whoever kills a believing soul, this being in the context of the Battle of the Camel and the noble Companions who were killed therein?

Ali, Talhah, and Al-Zubayr — who were among those promised Paradise — agreed to a reconciliation before the Battle of the Camel. However, the killers of Uthman feared prosecution after the agreement, so they decided to ignite the war between the two parties. Each side then thought that the other had initiated the injustice, and what happened occurred without the intentional involvement of the Companions. It is advisable to avoid delving into the disputes that occurred between the Companions and to believe that they were a result of ijtihad (definition) (independent reasoning), based on the saying of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz: "That was a tribulation from which Allah protected our swords, so let us protect our tongues from it."
