Do the heroic acts and sacrifices made by some people during the China earthquake—such as the grandmother who sacrificed her life to save her granddaughter, the teacher who protected his students with his body, the girl who donated her money before her death, and others—make them dwellers of Paradise or Hellfire, taking into account that they are non-Muslims?

Paradise is exclusively for believers and forbidden to disbelievers. Whoever embraces a religion other than Islam is a disbeliever and a loser in the Hereafter, as indicated by the Quran, Sunnah (definition), and consensus. Disbelieving do-gooders who neglected the Oneness of Allah and His worship will be rewarded by Allah for their good deeds in this world, but they will have no share in the Hereafter. Rather, they will be punished for polytheism and abide eternally in the Fire. Allah Almighty said: "And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter, he will be among the losers."
