How sound is the circulating story about the Angel of Death entering upon Prophet David (peace be upon him) and informing him of a young man's death after ten days, then the young man's life being extended due to a poor person's charity and supplication, until he lived to be eighty years old and became David's companion in Paradise?

This story has no basis or chain of transmission in the accredited books of Sunnah (definition), and signs of fabrication and falsehood are apparent in it. It was mentioned in Abu al-Layth al-Samarqandi's book "Punishment of the People of Major Sins" without a chain of transmission, knowing that Abu al-Layth's books contain many fabricated hadiths. Scholars have warned against this book, explicitly stating that it contains much that is not authentic.
