The answer

Verses have been mentioned that indicate that a person's seat in Paradise or Hell has been written before he is born, such as the Almighty's saying: {And give good tidings to those who believe that they will have a [firm] footing with their Lord} [Yunus: 2], meaning happiness has preceded them in the first mention. And like His saying: {Indeed, those for whom good has preceded from Us - they will be kept far from it [i.e., Hell]} [Al-Anbiya: 101]. In contrast, His saying regarding those whose seat in Hell has been written: {So who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or denies His signs? Those will attain their portion of the decree} [Al-A'raf: 37], meaning what has preceded for them in the Book of misery and happiness. And the correct view is that their portion of the Book includes both matters: misery and the deeds that are its causes, the ages that are the duration of its acquisition, and the sustenance they used to aid them in that. And authentic hadiths have come in this meaning, including the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "There is not one of you but has been informed of his seat in Paradise and his seat in Hell," then he urged to work.
