What should I do for my brother who commits sins, has despaired of life, and wishes for death?

To reform a non-practicing brother, one must first supplicate for him with sincerity and persistence. Then, offer advice through dialogue and rational persuasion, encouraging him with the reward of the righteous and warning him against the punishment of the wrongdoers. Remind him that Allah created the universe and subjected it to mankind, and that the purpose of creation is to worship Him. Also, remind him that life is a test to demonstrate the best of deeds, and that recompense in the Hereafter will be based on these deeds. The distress he feels may be due to his unawareness of the noble goal of life, which is to achieve servitude to Allah. Sincere return and repentance make Allah rejoice in the repentant servant, and He bestows upon him His love and mercy. Winning Paradise and escaping Hellfire require patience and endurance of hardship that will soon end in eternal comfort. Finally, remind him of Quranic verses about uprightness, the reward of believers, and the punishment of those who turn away from the remembrance of Allah.
