What is Sufism, when did it emerge, what is the school of thought of its adherents, and are they in the right or in the wrong, and what are the proofs for that?

The definition of Sufism varies due to the differing expressions of its adherents, and this variation indicates that it is not based on fixed rules but rather relies on individual taste and experience. Sufi orders differ in their proximity to or distance from the Sunnah, and they should not be judged with a single verdict, for among them are innovators, heretics, and ascetics. The questioner is advised not to engage with these orders due to the innovations and deviations they contain, and to seek sound Islamic knowledge from scholars who follow the methodology of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. For the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have left among you two things; you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet."
