What should a 26-year-old girl do if the young men who propose to her are either acceptable in appearance but not religiously committed, or religiously committed but not acceptable in appearance?
A woman should choose a husband who is religious and of good character, one who fears Allah concerning her, for he is the one who will make her happy. It was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "If there comes to you one whose religion and character you approve, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and great corruption." Religion is the primary principle. If it is possible for the suitor to be of good appearance and pleasing religiosity, that is better; otherwise, religion takes precedence. It is recommended to strive in supplicating to Allah for the selection and facilitation of what is good.
