How can the شبهة (doubt/fallacy) of skepticism concerning certainties such as the Testimony of Faith (Shahada) and the prophethood of the Messenger be countered, and what are the origins of pure skepticism?

Doubt concerning the fundamentals of religion and creed is among the most dangerous afflictions for hearts, and it is from the steps of Satan. Therefore, whoever feels it should hasten to God with supplication and humility, and reflect upon the Holy Quran, which is a healing for breasts and a guide for believers.

One should also adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for he guided us in treating these whisperings by saying: "The people will continue to ask questions until it is said: 'Allah created the creation, so who created Allah?' So whoever experiences anything of that, let him say: 'I believe in Allah.'" In another narration: "If it reaches that point, then let him seek refuge in Allah and stop." Imam An-Nawawi clarified that the treatment involves seeking refuge in Allah and turning away from contemplating these whisperings, knowing that they are from Satan.

Furthermore, one should sit with righteous people of knowledge and receive Islamic knowledge from them, and stay away from people of falsehood and those who raise doubts. For doubt in matters of creed is dangerous and leads to eternal misery; whoever does not enter Paradise will abide eternally in the Fire.
